FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How does it work?
Join us at the historic St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in beautiful Downtown Bryan at 6:00 pm on Mondays for our rehearsals!

Is this a church choir?
No, we are not a church choir. St. Andrew's Episcopal has generously donated their space for us to rehearse there, but we are not affiliated with any churches or religions. We are a choir for the community! To honor and support our St. Andrew's Episcopal partners, we sing at 2 of their church services a year, and children and families are encouraged but not required to attend.

What are the benefits of choral rehearsal?

Group choral rehearsals give an opportunity to sing with other children who are singing correctly, which enhances their understanding of true vocal production.  The vocal production taught in the BCC rehearsals is consistent with what is learned in individual lessons, but in a more social environment and in an age appropriate manner.

Is it really free? No hidden fees?
We want to bring free music education to our community to build a love for music in our wonderful area. Yes, this is completely free; no, there are no hidden fees. Because this is a completely free choir, if you are able, we would greatly appreciate a donation for this to continue so we can support the children involved! Each child costs around $50 in music supplies per year.

Does my child have to audition by themselves?
Currently, children will undergo "group voicing" to determine voice part and blending. This will take place in the full choir setting the first month of rehearsals.
We want all children to have a chance to be part of something as amazing as performing music for their community and understand that not everyone feels comfortable singing by themselves. We hope to create a safe space for all children and comfort levels!

How old does my child have to be to participate?
This season we are taking children in grades 2nd-8th grade. Feel free to contact us with questions!

What if my child can't make all of the rehearsals?
We understand that children need to grow and develop in all areas of their lives and not just one thing. We also understand that family situations and outside commitments happen. So, we are willing to work with your schedule as long as you are willing to commit to ours and share. The attendance requirement for participating in concerts states that children who have missed more than 3 rehearsals schedule a time to sing the concert songs with the directors to prove that they know the music. It is then the choir directors' decision to make if your child knows the music well enough to be a support to the choir in the choir concerts. Choir directors will provide access to practice tracks and the music so you can help your child practice at home. If the directors feel that your child does not know the music well enough, he or she will be asked to sing in the next concert.

I missed the deadline to sign up my child, can they still participate?
If you have missed the deadline to sign your child up, your child cannot participate for the current semester. HOWEVER! We have open enrollment for the first month every school semester and we encourage you to join us next semester. We do this to support the consistency of singers and rehearsal time for the choir directors.

Are Concerts free?
Public concerts that we host are also always free. We want to be sure to reach as many people as we can and we don't want money to get in the way of listening to great music. However, we do require people attending our concerts to reserve a ticket as the spots in our venues are limited. If you would like to reserve a ticket, you can go to this page. There are occasions where we host fundraisers or perform at events that may have ticket costs. Occasionally we get discounts for people associated with our organization, so keep an eye out for emails!
